Grafana Cloud Frontend Observability

What it is

Grafana Cloud Frontend Observability is Grafana's real user monitoring (RUM) product, powered by the open-source Grafana Faro SDK. Once an app is instrumented with the lightweight JavaScript snippet, it captures what is actually happening in real users' browsers (Source: sources/2026-08-24-grafana-from-failed-check-to-real-user-impact-pairing-synthetic-monitoring-and-frontend-observability):

  • Core Web Vitals and page performance from real sessions — loading, interactivity, visual stability — across real devices, networks, and geographies.
  • JavaScript errors with stack traces and the surrounding user context, including the errors a synthetic check was never scripted to catch.
  • Session Replay — follow a real user's journey from entry to exit and see exactly what they did before something broke.

It is the inside-out signal in Grafana Cloud's reliability story.

What it uniquely supplies

Frontend Observability answers the questions Synthetic Monitoring structurally cannot: scope (how many users), duration (when impact actually began in the real world — often before the check cadence caught it), and severity (hard failure vs. slow degradation). Aggregating many unique sessions surfaces the commonality — one browser, one region, one JS error — that narrows root cause (Source: sources/2026-08-24-grafana-from-failed-check-to-real-user-impact-pairing-synthetic-monitoring-and-frontend-observability).

Pairing and the Page pivot

A direct link from a failed synthetic check lands in the captured session here; the Page button then expands to all real user sessions that visited the same page in the same window. This is the mechanism behind closed-loop reliability — see synthetic-alert-to-rum-pivot (reactive) and rum-gap-to-synthetic-check (proactive).
