Rebalancer Explorer (Meta)¶
Rebalancer Explorer is the debugging UI that ships with Rebalancer, Meta's open-source assignment-problem solver. It is released as a Dockerized web UI for rapid debugging and iteration when solving problems with both the local-search and optimal (MIP) solvers (Source: sources/2026-09-21-meta-open-sourcing-rebalancer-a-generic-high-performance-library).
Why it exists¶
Once Rebalancer made formulating and solving assignment problems easy, Meta found that "the majority of engineering time for modelers shifted to debugging the solver's behavior." Without dedicated tooling, that debugging required a deep understanding of the solver's internals. Explorer packages the common questions modelers repeatedly asked into an interactive tool.
What it answers¶
- Which constraints are binding in the current solution.
- What would happen if a constraint were relaxed.
- Why an object was placed in one bin and not another.
These are the "explain the optimizer's decision" questions that make an otherwise-opaque combinatorial solver auditable โ the assignment-solver analogue of tracing why a scheduler placed a task on a given host.
