kro¶
Definition¶
kro (Kube Resource Orchestrator) is an open-source tool that translates high-level Kubernetes custom-resource abstractions into the lower-level resources that realize them. It lets a platform team expose a small, intent-capturing CRD surface while kro fans each custom resource out into the concrete Kubernetes objects (and external configuration) needed to stand it up. Role in Zalando's agent platform¶
Zalando offers platform abstractions as Kubernetes CRDs that capture
the intent to publish something on the platform — the main abstractions
today being Agent and MCP server (agents can be declarative or
user-provided; MCP servers in-house or third-party). kro translates
these abstractions into lower-level kagent and
agentgateway resources as well as into
configuration of the identity infrastructure
(Agentic Identity Broker). This
automatically spawns central MCP gateways and agent instances — the
self-service infrastructure /
operator shape applied to the
agent platform.
