IcePack / IceCube (Meta 102.4T liquid-cooled switch)

IcePack is Meta's first-generation liquid-cooled network rack, and IceCube is the 102.4-Tbps switch blade that populates it — Meta's 102.4T generation of open AI networking hardware, introduced at OCP Summit 2026. Together they are the physical substrate for the scale-out Flattened Planar Fabric and the building-scale fabrics that BAG aggregates.

IcePack (the rack)

  • Built on OCP's ORV3-HPRv1 rack standard (Open Rack v3, High-Power variant).
  • First liquid-cooled network rack at Meta — designed for the high power density and thermal efficiency gigawatt-scale AI clusters demand, where air-cooling the 102.4T generation would not fit the power/cooling envelope.

IceCube (the switch blade)

A sub-component of the IcePack generation, documented here on the parent page:

  • 102.4 Tbps fabric switch = 128 × 800G non-blocking switching capacity.
  • 2OU, PHY-less, hybrid liquid/air-cooled physical design; ships as IceCube and N-IceCube variants.
  • Ships in two ASIC variants:
  • Broadcom Tomahawk 6C
  • NVIDIA Spectrum-6
  • Both run Meta's open-source FBOSS network operating system, leveraging OCP SAI (Switch Abstraction Interface) — so one NOS controls either silicon.
  • Represents a 2× bandwidth increase over Meta's 51.2T platforms while hitting the thermal density next-generation AI data centers require.

Why it matters

  • Liquid cooling arrives in the network rack, not just the compute rack. Prior Meta liquid-cooling work (Catalina, Mount Diablo power rack) was compute-side; IcePack extends it to switching as bandwidth-per-rack doubles.
  • Dual-silicon from day one. Offering Tomahawk 6C and Spectrum-6 variants of the same blade — both on FBOSS/SAI — is the SAI-enabled multi-vendor sourcing thesis made concrete at 102.4T (the same stance as DSF).
  • The 102.4T floor for FPF and gigawatt clusters. IceCube's 128×800G non-blocking capacity is what makes the flattened 2-tier Clos of FPF — and the petabit BAG super-spine — buildable.
