GitHub Accessibility Scanner

Definition

GitHub's open-source accessibility scanner, a browser-driven tool for automated accessibility checks whose behavior is extended through plugins. The alt-text plugin is one such plugin, adding image-alt-quality rules on top of the scanner's core checks. Notes

  • The scanner drives a real browser and exposes image findings through a normal reporting pipeline that carries the real page URL and original HTML — so findings are locatable and fixable.
  • Some plugin findings can overlap the scanner's own built-in checks (e.g. the alt-text plugin's missing-alt rule covers the same ground as a core check).
  • Automated checks are treated as a floor, not conformance — pairs with advisory-over-blocking framing.
