Adaptive Intelligence¶
Adaptive Intelligence is a new Cloudflare Bot Management detection engine in which the model itself is adaptive — it continues to learn and self-adjust from observed traffic instead of being shipped as a discrete, versioned model launch. Previewed in the 2026-08-07 post as "coming soon" to all Bot Management customers.
The problem it solves¶
Cloudflare's bot detections produce two kinds of automated assessment:
- Definitely automated — deterministic methods / bot fingerprints.
- Likely automated — predictive scoring from Bots ML.
Historically Bots ML was updated in versions: each new model version was announced as a product launch. "This pacing doesn't work when bots adapt on the scale of hours or even minutes." The version-bump cadence is the bottleneck Adaptive Intelligence removes.
What's different¶
- Self-adjusting model. "The model itself is adaptive. It has learned from everything we've seen in the past, but more importantly, it will continue to learn and self-adjust based on what it sees." It upgrades itself across a wide range of traffic patterns (good → bad behavior).
- No customer-side version upgrade. "Customers will no longer need to upgrade to a formal new model version to have the latest predictive bot detections working for them."
This is the canonical wiki instance of self-adjusting-detection-model and adaptive-ml-detection — matching detection cadence to attacker adaptation cadence, and pairing with the disposable/dynamic ruleset posture ("if attacks constantly evolve, the defenses should, too").
Relationship to other systems¶
- systems/cloudflare-bot-management — Adaptive Intelligence is a new detection engine within the Bot Management product; it produces the likely-automated predictive score.
- systems/precursor — the client-side behavioral-detection sibling; Precursor supplies session-behavior signal, Adaptive Intelligence is the self-adjusting predictive-ML half. Together they realize the Trust-based, continuous detection posture.

- sources/2026-09-29-cloudflare-adaptive-application-security-for-the-ai-era-how-cloudflare — the "govern access and agent behavior" stage: Adaptive Intelligence "combines network, client-side, historical, and behavioral validation signals in a probabilistic model that can be updated as attackers change their techniques," and customer outcomes (chargebacks, successful legitimate transactions) feed back into the system to improve future decisions — the govern-stage instance of the framework's closed loop.
