Companion region failover¶
Definition¶
Pre-approve companion regions โ paired regional zones within the same data-residency / compliance boundary โ so that producers and consumers can fail over without violating regulatory commitments. This turns disaster recovery from an improvised, geography-shifting decision into a pre-vetted, policy-compliant path.
Why it matters¶
Global streaming platforms cannot arbitrarily move traffic between geographies during DR events because customer data residency agreements, GDPR, or sector-specific regulations constrain where data can land. Companion regions document and encode those constraints in advance, enabling fast operational decisions under pressure.
